Aluminum hypophosphite has a higher phosphorus content than currently known inorganic phosphorus flame retardants (except red phosphorus). At high temperatures, it forms a large amount of phosphate ester coating, producing numerous phosphorus-oxygen bond free radical scavengers. Aluminum hypophosphite has a small particle size, a narrow distribution range, and is surface-modifiable, making it highly effective in flame-retarding TPE wire and cable and polyolefins with high surface requirements. CAS number: 7784-22-7, English name: Aluminum hypophosphite, molecular formula: Al(H2PO2)3. It can be compounded with MHB, MCA, MPP, aluminum hydroxide, and halogen flame retardants.

II. Flame Retardant Mechanism

1. Decomposition at high temperatures generates phosphorus-oxygen free radicals, which combine with combustible free radical gases from polymer decomposition to form non-combustible phosphoric acid.

2. Aluminum hypophosphite absorbs heat and decomposes into a glassy form of degraded phosphoric acid, promoting the dehydration of the plastic into carbon.

3. The glassy form of phosphoric acid coats the substrate surface, isolating combustible gases and oxygen while preventing heat transfer.


III. Product Features

1. High phosphorus content, reaching 40%, making it a very effective acid source.

2. Halogen-free and environmentally friendly, it can be combined with a variety of phosphorus, nitrogen, and halogen-based flame retardants. 3. Aluminum hypophosphite has a small particle size and a high decomposition temperature, making it suitable for flame-retardant products with high temperatures and high surface requirements.

4. It is highly water-resistant, virtually insoluble in water, and does not absorb moisture. Its solubility is low, and even minimal moisture can be removed by simply drying it before use.

5. It has a high whiteness, making it highly compatible with white products.


IV. Applications

Suitable for flame retardant applications such as polypropylene (PPV2), TPE, LDPE, PBT, PET, EVA, epoxy resin, EPDM rubber, and coatings.


V. Storage and Packaging

Store in a cool, dry warehouse, 25 kg/bag, away from oxidizing and alkaline chemicals.


Aluminum hypophosphite contains numerous synergists, including melamine hydrobromide (MHB), melamine cyanurate (MCA), and zinc borate. The flame retardant formulation, dosage, and application method vary for each polymer. The crystal form, temperature resistance, stability, purity, and impurities of aluminum hypophosphite significantly influence its flame retardant effectiveness.
